Teaching
I believe that teachers should be honest with themselves about the purpose of their classes, adaptable when changes must be made, and passionate about the spread of knowledge.
To this end, I have consistently and continuously developed my teaching while also working to expand the academic offerings here at St. Mary’s College of Maryland (SMCM). In the Fall of 2023, I introduced Specifications Grading to Economic Statistics. This change involved a complete redesign of grading and the creation of 14 quizzes with a question bank of over 1400 questions. I have documented the success of this implementation in a research paper [link] and include sample questions in the appendix.
At the departmental level, I oversaw a complete redesign of assessment in the Economics Major as the assessment coordinator for this major. I continue to serve as assessment coordinator for Economics.
I am co-chair of the committee tasked with implementing a Data Science Minor here at SMCM. Through establishing this minor, I hope to expand the academic offerings here at SMCM to include more quantitative programming, statistics and more. Additionally, I proposed a Quantitative Center at SMCM to provide additional quantitative resources to students outside of the classroom. This proposal will likely more forward in the coming years pending a redesign of our library space.
